Paradise Recreation Roots

My connection to recreation in Paradise dates back to 1998, when I began working in aquatics with the Paradise Recreation & Park District as a lifeguard and swim instructor. I worked my way into the role of Pool Supervisor, overseeing staff, programs, training, special events, and day-to-day aquatics operations. During that time, I also earned American Red Cross certification as a Lifeguard Training Instructor, allowing me to help prepare and develop future lifeguards and aquatics staff across Butte County.

Beyond my work with PRPD, I spent many years as Head Coach of the Paradise Piranhas and Paradise High School Swim Teams, building lasting relationships with local youth, families, schools, and community organizations.

My involvement on the Ridge also includes after-school youth programming with the Boys & Girls Club of the North Valley, leading outdoor recreation experiences to include backpacking, rock-climbing, and white-water rafting for clients and families of Youth for Change.

In 2010, I participated on PRPD’s Parks Master Plan Update Advisory Committee, representing the Paradise Piranhas Swim Team. The committee worked with District staff and Board representatives to review the draft Master Plan, and provide community input on long-term priorities, operations, facilities, and recreation needs. That experience gave me an early opportunity to look beyond individual programs and better understand the broader planning and decision-making responsibilities of a public recreation district.

Together, these experiences reflect a connection to the Ridge and PRPD that spans much of my professional life. My candidacy for the PRPD Board of Directors is a continuation of that commitment and an opportunity to bring my experience in recreation, public service, planning, and community partnerships to the District’s future.
